Set up in 1990 as a response to the needs of children and young people in Basildon, Schools Team Ministry (STM) has subsequently been actively involved in the Basildon primary and secondary schools.

As part of Churches Together in Basildon, STM is resourced in partnership with Viz-A-Viz Ministries and has employed a full time worker since 1997.

At the heart of the work of STM is a conviction of the pressing need to help children and young people gain a clear understanding of Christianity in a way that is relevant and interesting. This is achieved through:

• Assemblies. STM currently ensures a Christian assembly in every primary school in Basildon visiting most schools twice a term. The assemblies feature drama (often featuring members of the audience), games, music and puppets. These all serve to support the clear message from the Bible the assembly seeks to covey.
• After school clubs. Across the town in we support after schools clubs, called ALF (About Life & Faith) groups in four schools. These clubs run to help children find out more about Jesus and think about what it means to be his follower. STM also runs a once monthly event for the children in the after school clubs to attend, this is called ALF Central.
• Lessons. STM also takes lessons in local secondary schools, mainly supporting the teaching of Christianity in Secondary schools with a series of lessons that explore different aspects of Christianity.
• Churches. STM supports the work carried out by local churches with children by training children’s worker and by leading family services.
